Xin Chào

Even though the new year is over it is fun to say Happy New year to our taxi drivers, security guards, grocery store clerks etc. They smile so big and say thank you. They always say it back and with big smile. They especially love it if I try to say it in .

We just landed in Thailand. We are here for a leadership seminar. It will be our last time with the Lisa Mission leaders who have become dear friends that can relate to what we are going through. It will be a wonderful week but hard good byes. We love the area Presidency too.  They are so loving and teach us so many helpful things to take back and implement in the mission. It’s like our own special education week. I’m also excited to go to the temple! 6 months is long time without being able to see a temple of go inside.

The mission is doing well. They are excited about making goals and strengthening the church. There is joy in the air. When I see missionaries or when we end a meeting I always ask a missionary or the whole group. “ what day is it?” The answer is “it’s a great day to be a missionary!” I will say after that” That’s right” President Hughes will say “We love you.” It puts a smile on all of our faces. We say it a lot. I will miss hearing that every day.

Last Friday we had a kick off devotional for a “Day with a missionary” in Hanoi. We had 12 young single adults sign up to be with the  missionaries for the day. They were assigned to a companionship and they spent the whole day, Saturday, together. The did personal, companionship and language study. They went finding outside and on social media. They taught lessons and contacted referrals. The visited members and worked hard. They came back for a testimony meeting all smiles. Here are some of the comments: “I knew missionaries worked hard but they also have fun, my body is tired but I have so much joy, we found so many new people, I loved teaching, I loved today. My favorite comment was from this humble, gentle young man named Huy. He said “Ever since I’ve joined the church I’ve wanted to try to have a perfect day, today with the missionaries I had one.” The missionaries thanked us for assigning them a new companion. We heard that some of the YSA”s had their own friends lined up to teach and, some of the members were great at finding and gave missionaries new ideas and new places to find at. They said it was awesome to be with a greenie full of faith and not restricted by what they think you can or cannot say. A branch president said this was awesome we have  several of them talking about turning in their papers. Those are the results we were hoping for. We will be doing it again next month in the south. It will be fun to see how it goes đown there.

One sister wrote on the miracle chat:

Hello we have a big big miracles today 🥳🥳🥳🥳 (Day with a missionary)

We planned to search online today (because we thought no one would be out on the street today because it was too cold 🥶). Ya and we still didn't have the heart to go online and we decided to go for a spin at Tran Quoc Pagoda. AND happened to talk to a friend, and that friend was traveling with a group of 27 people to volunteer for a student fund organization in the Thu Duc - HCM area. Yassss they were super fun, they introduced and talked to the ladies super a lot. The sisters shared a lot with them about missionary work. Woo hoo then they wanted to be FB friends with you guys. Yayyyy and the sisters got their contacts and created a great impression about why they go to missionary work 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

We love the missionaries so much. They are incredible young people to give up 18-24 months of their lives to serve the Lord. They are full of faith, teachable, respectful, loving, diligent and so good.

We hope you have a great week. We hope you feel the love of the Savior in your lives.

Love,  Sister Hughes
