Going places

April 29, 2024,    Dear family and friends,    For Larry’s (President Hughes’) birthday he requested that we ride the train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh. It is a 35 hour train ride. He did some research and 3 months after his birthday we finally went on the Reunification Express. We rode it from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi after Zone conference in the south. The train ride was just what you expect, rickety, loud at times, lots of stops, not too glamorous and scenic views. We got to travel by villages, towns, mountains, fields, and beaches we would have never seen otherwise. It was fun to see rural Vietnam and the people who live there. We did get off the train with a few aches and pains from beds that felt like table tops and wanting some fresh food. They did feed us and the food was pretty good considering the kitchen size and the length of the train, we just didn’t 100%trust it.   February 26, 2024   Xin Chào    Even though the new year is over it is fun to say Happy New year to our taxi drivers, security guards, grocery store clerks etc. They smile so big and say thank you. They always say it back and with big smile. They especially love it if I try to say it in .  We just landed in Thailand. We are here for a leadership seminar. It will be our last time with the Lisa Mission leaders who have become dear friends that can relate to what we are going through. It will be a wonderful week but hard good byes. We love the area Presidency too.  They are so loving and teach us so many helpful things to take back and implement in the mission. It’s like our own special education week. I’m also excited to go to the temple! 6 months is long time without being able to see a temple of go inside.  The mission is doing well. They are excited about making goals and strengthening the church. There is joy in the air. When I see missionaries or ...

To be a Pioneer

February 19, 2024   Dear Family and friends,    We go to church at different branch every week. There are 11 branches. They vary in size quite a bit and in strength. We have seen progress in the sacrament meetings being more focused on Christ and talks using more scriptures and quotes. We are also hearing about some branches putting together their “share the gospel plan” as suggested in the handbook and after we have done training about it. We have branches starting to hold coordination councils as well. They are struggling to see the importance of having a branch council weekly. It has been something President Hughes has asked them to do for 2 years. Having said that we are sooo grateful for our Branch presidents and District presidents. We are grateful new members accept callings. They have no idea what they are supposed to do and some really want to learn and others just quit or move branches to get out of callings They have never had to sacrifice or serve like ...
